Carlos Henriquez is a proud life-long resident of Dorchester and graduate of the Boston Public Schools.
As the son of Sandra Henriquez, a current Obama administration official and the former head of the Boston Housing Authority, as well as Julio Henriquez, a long time political activist, Carlos learned from an early age the importance of public service.
One of Carlos’s first memories of civic engagement was the Rainbow Coalition pin he wore at the age of seven to support Mel King’s mayoral candidacy. It was at this young age that Carlos learned what could be accomplished through organizing, planning, and collaborating with members of his community.
Over the next 25 years, Carlos grew to become a well-known activist and leader for his community. Whether working as a political aide in Boston City Hall or as a mentor to youth on the streets of Dorchester, Carlos has always been committed to community though his work to create more jobs, make our streets safer, and ensure every child has access to a quality education.
Among Carlos’s many attributes are:
- President of the Board of Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative (DSNI),
- Chairs of the Workforce Development & Youth Committee at the Kroc Community Center on Dudley Street;
- Governing Board of Boston Connects, Inc. (BCI), a non-profit organization that operated Boston’s Empowerment Zone;
- Member of the Boston Redevelopment Authority’s ONEin3 Advisory Council; and
- Reigning champion of dodgeball and “four square” in his beloved neighborhood of Dorchester.
